A Proud History

Founded in 1947

In 1946, retired orchadist Cecil Eeles and Flinders Councillor Joe Wood decided that Rosebud was in desperate need of a Bowls Club to provide interest and entertainment to the increasing number of retirees who were making Rosebud their home.

A section of the foreshore next to the sports oval and tennis club was soon secured and a bowling green was laid on what used to be the Rosebud Croquet Green in the 1930s.

A committee was formed on the 18th November 1947 and the Rosebud Bowling Club was founded.

The opening was a huge success with approximately 120 Peninsula bowlers in attendance. Only 6 of Rosebud's inaugural members had bowled previously.

Since then, our club has had many competitions and has evolved from two separate Mens' and Ladies' clubs to one, unified club. We are proud to be Rosebud's premier lawn bowls club and cannot wait to bowl well into the future.

Our Club Rooms

In 1951 a second green was put in and in 1954, a new clubhouse was built alongside the green – part of which is still used today.

Our club rooms got a huge makeover during a 1994 renovation and the tennis club was removed from in front of the club – opening up a view to the Bowls Club from Rosebud.

We were very excited in 2019 to open up our brand new green after a long process! The result is a stunning new world-class green for all to use and is currently the pride and joy of the club.
